Giant Decorative Bows

We have plenty to celebrate in this life and why not give those celebrations an extra special touch with these "Giant Decorative Bows!" You can create these magnificent bows in 3 different sizes (12 inch, 14 inch, and 16 inch) with this pattern!


These are the perfect holiday item for the upcoming Christmas season! You can use them on wreaths, stairwells, fireplace mantels, windows and even your cabinets!



And can you imagine these on new baby boy and baby girls hospital doors! These are the perfect touch or welcoming new baby into the world! The nice thing is Mom and Dad can reuse this bow when they get home to decorate the new little ones nursery!


How about those upcoming Birthdays! This bow is the perfect addition to those extra special gifts and they don't have to throw these bows out! They become keepsakes! You could always add a name and date to give it that extra special touch!

Pattern Instructions

Materials:

Yarn worsted weight 4

Hook choices

  • H hook = 12 inch bow

  • I hook = 14 inch bow

  • K hook (use 2 strands) = 16 in bow

Needle

Scissors


Stitches:

Dc - double crochet

Dcfp - double crochet front post

* * - repeat *to* around


*Note: Beginning/Turning chain counts as stitch

Bow Tail Pieces: make 2

Begin: Ch 23

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each st to end, ch 3. (21st)

Row 2: Turn,*dcfp, dc next 2 st*, repeat *to* 5 times, dcfp in next to last st, dc in last st, ch 3. (21st)

Row 3: Turn, *dc in the top of the first dcfp in round 2 , dcfp next 2*, repeat 5 times, dc in last 2 st, ch 3. (21st)

Row 4 & 5: Repeat row 2 and 3. (21st)

Row 6: Repeat row 2, finish off, leave long tail for sewing. (21st)


Bow Loops Section:

Begin: Ch 101

Row 1: Turn, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc 97, ch 3. (99st)

Row 2: Turn *dcfp, dc next 2 st*, repeat *to* 31 times, dcfp in next st, dc in last st, ch 3. (99st)

Row 3: Turn, *dc in the top of the first dcfp in round 2 , dcfpc next 2* repeat *to* 31 times, dc in last 2st, ch 3. (99st)

Row 4 - 9: Repeat row 2 and 3. (99st)

Row 10: Repeat row 2. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing (or sl st) ends together, weave in ends.


Assembly:

After sewing bow loop section ends together (row 10 instructions) lay the piece flat with the seam in the back center.

Scrunch the center together and with separate yarn wrap around the center approximately 30 times (or to your desired thickness and width) tightly. Tie off in a knot on the back (seam) side.

Place the two small mystery pieces slightly angled on top of each other and sew to the back (seam side) center of large mystery piece. Weave in ends and you are done!


Feel free to use some waterproofing spray on the bows for outdoor use and if you want stiff loops you can line the inside with craft wire! Enjoy!
