If you are looking for a cute applique that gives you warm fuzzy feelings from your childhood (or your child's childhood!), then look no further! This cute blue puppy has some features that are in a likeness to a familiar friend that we had as a child, but is not an exact replica.
As you can tell the ears and feet are very different, but there is enough inspiration in certain features to still trigger some lovely memories from childhood.
While I would love to be able to make patterns that are an exact replica of our childhood favorites, legally I can't, and no one has reached out to me from the major networks to hire me to write patterns for their brands lol! One can dream though right haha!
So in the meantime, I can share this pattern that is inspired by our cute little friend, from way back when that will trigger those memories in a similar way.
Several of my pattern testers went all out on this test! They loved this puppy so much they decided to do two in two different color combos. The second one they made had the same color combination as our childhood favorite's best friend.

This applique is approximately 8 inches tall by 5 inches wide and can be used in a variety of ways. There are a lot of great ways to decorate with this applique such as on blankets, pillows, tote bags, backpacks, and even shadow boxes to hang on a wall.
This is my youngest child's favorite applique out of all the ones I've made and she asked me right away if she could keep it!
Umm ... of course I said yes! I think I am going to make a second headpiece, set of ears, and tummy, and then sew it to the back and stuff it a little! This way she'll have a little stuffy to play with.
Although, while I was just typing this, she saw her picture on the screen and ran up to me, and asked me if I would make her a blanket with it. How about that timing haha! I guess I'll be making a blanket. We'll do anything for our kids right?!

Final Assembly:
Note: I assemble my appliques with hot glue, which is a fast and safe method. The glue adheres to the fibers quite well and the applique is very secure. The hot glue packaging that I use says it is non-toxic so it is safe, in my opinion, as well. In addition, you can machine wash on cold, and lay flat to dry or tumble dry/lowest heat setting. You may also use other fabric-safe glue or use the traditional method of sewing your pieces together.

How I assembled my dog:
I laid out all my pieces to get the look I wanted. You can use pins to hold it together if you desire and/or take a picture of your layout with your phone to reference as you are putting it together.
First I attached the Blue dots to my ears. The Big dots in the lower parts of the ears and the smaller dots on the upper parts of the ears.
Next, I attached the eyes to the head about 5 rows from the top of the head.
Then, I attached the nose about 3 rows below the eyes.
I proceeded to the mouth next by attaching the tongue and lower jaw to the bottom, back center, of the head. Row 1 of both the tongue and jaw will not show, you only want row 2 of each piece “peeking out.”
Next, I attached the paw pads to the paws.
Then I attached the tummy to the back of the head and the paw to the top of the tummy.
Last, I attached the ears to the head. You can angle them in any direction desired!
And there you have it! A super cute puppy friend that makes the heart skip a little beat! I hope you enjoyed making this applique!
