Hi! My name is Karen! I am the creator of Orchid and Bee's! In March of 2019 I decided to teach myself how to crochet! I took myself to Walmart and bought a hook and $1.77 worth of yarn, went home and watched one YouTube video!
It was just like that I discovered a hidden talent! Crochet just made sense to me! I think with my art degree and passion for math and puzzles crocheting just clicked!

I watched a few more videos on the different types of stitches and then I just started making things that I saw in my head ha ha!
At this time, however, I had not a clue how to read a pattern! So one day I decided to find a hat pattern on YouTube for a friend that needed one. That is when I discovered Little John's Yarn! I decided to watch her video and write down everything she said. Later I thought to myself, maybe since people were asking for a written version of this video, in the comments section, I should share what I wrote down with Alysha, the founder of Little John's Yarn, and see if she could use it for her followers.
To my surprise she wrote me back elated! She gave me some pointers on how patterns should be written and pushed me to try writing my own patterns. With her encouragement I took a leap of faith and started designing and writing patterns by July of 2019!
I formed a group on Facebook called "Orchid and Bee's VIP's and this group grew to nearly 200 members within a month! They were an incredible group of crocheters who came along and tested my patterns and helped me get my start as a Designer! To this day that group continues to grow with me!
As a beginner in the crochet world my passion is to create patterns that are easy for beginners to follow. I want beginners have easy, fun, vibrant, and colorful appliques to give extra special touches to their finished pieces.
I look forward to continuing to grow my skills as a crocheter but I am always going to have a special place in my heart for beginners and will always make a way for them to do patterns that look like something only a more experienced crocheter could do!
Thanks for joining me on this journey! Now let's go have fun crocheting!
